Mitchell Thomas "Mitch" Broyles, 78, of Abilene died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, at a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Christian Church with the Revs. Tom Lyda and Chris Diebel officiating. Burial will be in Albany Cemetery in Albany, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mr. Broyles was born in Cherokee, where he graduated from high school.
He attended Southwest Texas State University and Butler University.
He moved to Abilene in the mid 1940s from Cherokee and established Broyles Carpet & Draperies, which he operated from 1951-1990. He owned and operated Advanced Floors for nine years. He was a member and elder at First Christian Church, where he also taught a Sunday school class.
He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2012.
He was a founder and board member of Serenity House and a member of A.A. He married Helen Lovelace in Baird in 1946; she preceded him in death.
He married Bobbie Hawkins in 1975 in Abilene.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; three sons, Gary Bent Broyles and Carl Lawrence, both of Abilene, and Vern Lawrence of Grapevine; two sisters, Imogene Broyles of Tuscola and Margaret Altizer of Cherokee; three grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many cousins.
