| Birth: | Mar. 4, 1909 | | Death: | Jul. 30, 2003 |  Musician. He was a string band fiddler who took his act across the country mastering genres from bluegrass to jazz. He taught himself to play at the age of 9 and over his lifetime took up 20 instruments including mandolin, violin, viola and banjo. He was a composer, instrumentalist and singer. Two PBS documentaries, "Louie Bluie" in 1985 and "Sweet Old Song" in 2002 chronicled parts of his life and work. His recordings, released by Vocalion Records, included "Vine Street Drag" and "Knox County Stomp." (bio by: Ron Moody)
