Samuel Shaw Arentz

U.S. Congressman. He graduated from the Chicago Manual Training School in 1897 and from the South Dakota School of Mines Rapid City, in 1904. He was a member of the South Dakota National Guard, (1901-04) and moved to Ludering, Nevada, in 1907. In addition, Nevada, he was a mining engineer-superintendent of mines in Idaho, Utah, Arizona and Montana. During World War I, he served as a Captain in the Engineers Corps, U.S. Army. After the war, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-seventh Congress, served (1921-23), reelected Sixty-ninth Congress and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving (1925-33). After leaving Congress, he was a delegate to the Republican National Conventions, (1928, 32) and resumed his mining interest. While in Reno, Nevada, he went to receive medical treatment and passed away suddenly at age 55. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
