Leila M. Killgore Wharton, wife of the late Carl E. Wharton of San Antonio TX and daughter of the late Ben S. Killgore and Daisy F. Heiman Killgore of Tucumcari NM, passed away September 29, 2011, in Pflugerville TX at the age of 100 years and 10 months. Mrs. Wharton was born November 30, 1910, on the Killgore Hereford Ranch, 15 miles west of Tucumcari NM. She developed a love for helping those who needed help, whether it was cooking meals, taking the ill to the doctor, or sitting with an invalid in their home or care center. Leila came to San Antonio in July of 1939 when her husband Carl was transferred there. She made a Christian home for her family until the age of 90, when she decided the family home was too much to care for. At that time, she moved to Pflugerville, where her son and daughter-in-law made her at home. For almost 11 years she happily cooked; kept a garden; shopped; and made corsages, small arrangements, and hundreds of bows for their florist.

Mrs. Wharton is survived by her loving family, daughter Carol W. Parks and husband Don; son Don Wharton and wife Nancy; grand-
daughters Cathy P. Holton and husband Scott, Stephanie W. Washburn and husband Jarrett; great-grandchildren Avery Washburn and Evan Washburn; and many nephews, nieces, and friends.

Preceding Leila in death were her husband Carl E. Wharton; grandson Donald Carl Parks; father and mother Ben and Daisy Killgore; brothers Ben, Arthur, William, and Rufus "R.J." Killgore; and sisters Georgia King, Jessie Wilma Killgore (b. 26 Nov 1905; d. 3 Sep 1985 El Paso TX), and Daisy Killgore Hurley.

She will be laid to rest next to the love of her life, Carl Wharton.
