|Birth: ||May 19, 1807|
|Death: ||Mar. 27, 1896|
This tombstone, which may no longer be there in Bentz Cemetery, was indexed only as W.T.Tubbs, no dates. Whitney Tubbs is not listed in any other graveyard in Meigs, and his parents are here so I believe this is his burial.
Whitney Tubbs married Mary S. Smith on 26 May 1831 in Meigs County Ohio. They had four children: daughter Mary Ann "Mollie" born 1840, son Stephen Smith born 1841; dau Florance H. born 1844; and a fourth child who must have died as an infant.
History of this family is a little odd. They may have been separated after 1860; one person reported she heard he had gone to California with horses to sell.
Whitney and Mary are together in 1850 and 1860, but he is missing in 1870.
In 1880 Whitney is living in what appears to be a boarding house in Bedford township while Mary and her daughter are running a boarding house in Huntington WV; Mary is listed as a widow, but Whitney did not die until 1896, three years before Mary died. Mary spent her last several years living with their son SS Tubbs in Middleport.
Whitney Tubbs' occupation is listed as a Tailor.
