Rex P Barrett, 91, father, brother, dad, Durex, daddy, PaPa, grandpa, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, Sept. 26, 2011.
Rex was born in Granby, Missouri, on March 21, 1920, to Rex P. Barrett and Lula May Parker. Rex was the eldest of four children. He attended grade school and high school in Missouri and then attended Kemper Military School. He was a trainer pilot and weather officer during WWII. He married Audre Leone Clark in SLC and they raised four children in Columbia, Missouri, and Phoenix, Arizona, moving to the beautiful community of Midway. During those years he managed several movie theaters, retired from Prudential Insurance Co. and then worked at ZCMI, where he retired at age 80. He served in various callings in the LDS Church; as a member of the Midway 1st Ward Bishopric, and in the Provo Temple with his wife. He was always active in the community, working as County Republican Chairman, Swiss Days Chairman, and President of the Midway Boosters. He was Midway's 2009 Honored Citizen. He took care of the flags on the veteran's graves for Memorial Day for over 45 years. He was known throughout his entire life as someone who was always serving and helping others. He was a devout fan of BYU football, the Utah Jazz and old movies.
Rex is survived by his son, M. Scott Barrett (Jody) of Fargo N.D. ; a daughter, Candyce Lynn Barrett, of Midway; a son-in-law, Calvin Tolman (Nancy), of SLC; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; he is also survived by two brothers, Barre (Nancy), Larre (LuAnn), of Florida. He is preceded in death by his wife, Audre; his son Clark; his daughter Penny, and his sister Neila Pettit.
Funeral services will be held at the Midway 1st-7th Ward Building, 200 South, 250 East, on Monday, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m. A viewing will be held Sunday evening, Oct. 2, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Midway 1st-7th Ward Relief Society Rm. A viewing will be held prior to the services from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., in the Relief Society Rm.
Interment will be at the Midway Cemetery, following the funeral services.
