Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon for O.L. Atkinson, well known and highly respected citizen of the Olean community. Mr. Atkinson had been in failing health for the past year when his condition became more serious on March 20 and as he did not improve he entered the Colony Clinic in Kansas City, Mo. March 31 for treatment.

Oliver Logan Atkinson, the son of James and Jane Atkinson, was born March 4, 1880, near Olean, MO. and departed this life April 6, 1944 at the age of 64 years, 1 month and 2 days. He was married to Millie McBroom March 14, 1901. She passed away June 24, 1903.

On June 20, 1906, he was again married to Dollie M. McBroom and to this union six children were born, all of whom survive.

At the age of 21 years he united with the Christian Church at Olean, MO. where he has remained a faithful member throughout his life. Mr. Atkinson was a kind and devoted husband and father, willing at all times to make sacrifices for the needs and comfort of his family. Having lived in this community the greater part of his life, he had won for himself many friends. He was held in high esteem and was respected by his many friends and neighbors. His home was always known for its genial hospitality.

Besides his wife, Mrs. Dollie Atkinson, he is survived by two daughters and four sons: Mrs. Howard Vanpool (Ruby Ree) of St. Louis, Mrs. Loyd Rinehard (Mina Jane) of Pampa, Tex., Basil Tod Atkinson of St. Louis, Mo., Pfc. Arthur Don Atkinson and WOJG Joe William Atkinson, both overseas, and Pfc. Earl Oliver Atkinson of Keesler Field, Miss. Also, one half-sister, Mrs. Alfred Brown of Dos Palos, Calif., and one half-brother, John Basil Proctor, of Roy, N.M. He also leaves three grandsons, Harold Loyd Rinehart, Logan Earl Vanpool, and Thomas Hugh Wardlaw; two sons-in-law, Loyd Rinehart and William Howard Vanpool and daughter-in-law, Marie Atkinson.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Olean Christian Church, Rev. A.L. Alexander, pastor of the Eldon Christian Church delivered the message. Burial was made at the Olean Cemetery, Phillips Funeral Home Service. --Furnished by Nancy Arnold Thompson
