Phyllis Schmitt, 59, of 704 Annway Drive, died Monday, Jan. 15, 1996, at Covington Heights Health Care Center. Phyllis L. Voeltz was born Jan. 22, 1936, in Vilas. She moved with her family to Canistota and later to Little Falls, Minn., where she graduated from high school in 1954. She moved to Chicago where she did secretarial work at various businesses. She married Thomas Kirchen in Chicago. She moved to Sioux Falls in 1970. She married Alvin "Al" Schmitt on June 22, 1976, in Luverne, Minn. She worked at various jobs, including production work at Litton's and Dakota Industries. She retired because of poor health. She was a member of St. Lambert's Catholic Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons: Steven Kirchen of Sioux Falls; and Thomas Kirchen of Dothan, Ala.; four daughters: Mrs. Gary (Donna) Arens, Mrs. William (Deborah) Willoughby and Victoria Schmitt, all of Sioux Falls, and Judy Higham of Largo, FL; 19 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers: Ronald of Beresford; and Richard of Shakopee, Minn.; and one sister, Mrs. John (Lee Ann) Gaunt of Lilburn, Ga. A funeral Mass begins at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Lambert's Catholic church, with burial in St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. today at George Boom Funeral Home, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m. Christian wake services begin at 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
