PORTSMOUTH - Lemuel T. ''Soap'' Yancey Jr., 49, of the 500 block of Bunch Blvd., died July 18, 2003, in Medical College of Virginia Hospital, Richmond.
Born in Portsmouth, Mr. Yancey was a former member of New First Baptist Church, Taylorsville, Portsmouth, and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
Survivors include four daughter, Tesha Yancey, Fikeria Mills, Rashida Hardy and Khadijah Yancey, all of Portsmouth; a son, Lemuel S. Yancey of Ashburn, Va.; his mother, Vivian H. Yancey of Portsmouth; three sisters, Marvelyn Stallins and Mable L. Yancey, both of New York, and Diane Yancey of Portsmouth; three brothers, Sadat Yancey, David Yancey and Alvin Yancey, all of Portsmouth; five grandchildren; and uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and companion, Angela Llanon, and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in New First Baptist Church, Taylorsville, by the Rev. Marcus Brown. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Portsmouth, with military honors. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at noon today. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today. The family will also be at 204 Woodstock St., Portsmouth, and will assemble there for the funeral procession to the church
