John Sullivan

Death: Jun. 28, 1884

Crimea War Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Chief Boatswain's Mate in the Royal Navy, Naval Brigade. On April 10, 1855, at Sebastopol, Crimea, Chief Sullivan, was captain of one of the guns at Greenhill Battery. Under continuous fire from enemy sharpshooters, he volunteered to place a flagstaff on a mound to act as an aiming point. He carried out the dangerous task which enabled his battery to open fire on concealed enemy gun positions causing great damage.
