Funeral services for Rev. J.B. Phillips, 76, of the Sunk Cane community, were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2005, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey with Rev. Tim Beaty and Rev. Nolan Cantrell officiating.
Burial was in Cedar Chapel Cemetery.
Rev. Phillips died Sunday, May 22 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a Missionary Baptist minister, serving the Upper Cumberland region, and was a retired highway construction worker.
Born March 30, 1929, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Basil and Birtie (Speck) Phillips. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Oma C. (Hite) Phillips on February 24, 2005.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Cathy Phillips of Monterey; 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Joe Flatt and Valerie and James Hill, all of the Sunk Cane community, and Annette and Merle Harris of Mayland; 3 brothers, Rev. David Phillips, Daniel Phillips, and Rev. Basil Phillips Jr., all of Monterey; 3 sisters, Edith Bowman and Evelyn Crabtree, both of Livingston, and Bertha Hite of Battle Creek, MI; 12 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.
