Served as Private, Hospital Corps, 3rd Infantry U.S. Army. On October 5, 1898 the Chippewaw Indians staged an uprising at Lake Leech in northern Minnesota. he rescued and tended to several wounded in the action, continuously exposing himself to hostile fire. This was the last battle of the Indian Wars and he was the last to recieve the Medal of Honor for actions in a Indian campaign.
