Henry Harrison Hawkins was born in White Horn to Samuel Alex Hawkins 1854 – 1939 and Malaha Ann Cline 1856 – 1926. His siblings were: William N Hawkins 1881; James Vanoy Hawkins 1883 – 1949; Lizzie L Hawkins 1894 –1908; Dewey P Hawkins 1898 – 1960.
In 1900, the closest boy near Henry's age lived on the farm next door, or across the road was Sammie McPherson. The 1910 census found Henry single and working helping his father do general farm work.
Henry was 27 when he married Hila Flora Short on Oct. 22, 1916. This union produced he following babies: Hillary Hawkins 1918; Marvin Clay Hawkins 1920; Lois Marie Hawkins 1921; Duard Carl Hawkins 1924; Roy Truman Hawkins 1925; Clara Launa Hawkins 1935.
The 1940 census also revealed that Henry had finished the 8th grade of elementary school, and was living on Hwy 66 near Bulls Gap. He owned his home worth $800 dollars and it was on a farm. Both he and his son Hillary, were working as carpenter and carpenter's helper in the building construction. and together they were making $300 dollars a month.. All of Henry's children were living at home.
Henry preceded his wife, Flora in death. It was a sad day when his family and friends gathered at the cemetery to bid him farewell. (bio by Audrey DeCamp Hoffman)
