During the 1950s and the 1960s he appeared regularly at the popular Jilly's Nightclub in New York City on 52nd Street. He also worked regularly in Los Angeles, California, Reno, Nevada, Miami, Florida, and the Virgin Islands. On March 15, 1969, he became the fifth and last husband of actress/singer Judy Garland, who he was married to until her death on June 22, 1969, at the age of 47 from an overdose of barbituates.
