Mrs. Mary Jane Cooper, wife of Phillip Cooper, died at the family residence, 632 Vollmer street, at 2 o'clock Tuesday morning. The deceased is survived by three sons, William, Elijah, and Clark Cooper, and four daughters, Mrs. Like, Mrs. Parker, Mrs. Horrall, and Miss Rose Cooper. The funeral will be held this Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock from the Wilson Creek Baptist Church. The remains will be laid to rest in the cemetery adjoining the church.
Mary Jane Warner was the daughter of Enos Cole Warner and Elizabeth Like. She was first married to Lawson Alexander Hewitt, on April 22, 1858 in Knox County, Indiana. He was killed during the Civil War. The couple had one child together, a son named George Washington Hewitt. After Lawson's death in 1863, Mary's father Enos Warner took in George to raise and was his legal guardian until he reached 16.
Mary married Phillip Cooper on November 6, 1863 in Knox County, Indiana.
