Frieda Antoinette Goodwin Allen of Cary, NC (Glenaire Retirement Center) died peacefully on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Wake Med Cary of complications from congestive heart failure. She is the daughter of the late Benjamin Phillip Goodwin and Helen Vance Bell Goodwin of Spartanburg, SC and was born on May 14, 1932 in Spartanburg, SC.
Frieda graduated from Limestone College in 1954 as an English Major. Before graduation she met William Waldrop Allen (Bill) in Spartanburg, SC at Bethel United Methodist, fell in love and married.
A lifelong member of Cary's First United Methodist Church she was active as a pre-school teacher and committee member. She also was a member of the Esther Women's Circle at the church, was a Girl Scout leader and counselor. Frieda loved to travel and see different parts of the world with her daughters and cousins. She was a devoted, loving and a supportive helpmate to her husband Bill of 57 wonderful years who resides at Glenaire Retirement Center. She was blessed with two daughters, Merri Vance Allen Wallace, PhD and husband, Steve of Stockbridge, GA and Chavon Allen Casey and husband, Tom and son, (JAC) John Allen Casey of Cary, NC. Other survivors include one brother, Ben William Goodwin of Tryon, NC and lots of cousins, nieces and nephews from Oklahoma, South Carolina, Georgia and North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her younger sister, Helen Machree Holder from Boone, NC.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 24, 2011 at First United Methodist Church of Cary. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. Dr. Rev. William Green will preside.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 23 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Rd, Cary.
