Death: Nov. 21, 1948

Homer Lee was the son of Joe Lane AKINS and Conzada "Zaida" BRACKETT, husband first of Ella CARD, then of Ethel CALLOWAY, and father of Homer Lee, Jr.

His obituary, as published in the Leonard (TX) Graphic, Dec 10 1948:
Relatives and friends of Homer L. Akins were shocked when word came that he had died suddenly in Ada, Oklahoma, on November 21. He and Mrs. Akins had gone from their home in Durant to spend the day in Ada with Mrs. Akins sister, Mrs. Cora Rutherford. A short time after their arrival he was stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage and died in a very short time. Homer Akins grew to manhood in the Trenton community, having moved to Fannin county with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe L. Akins, from the state of Georgia. For a number of years he served as a deputy sheriff of Denton county. He moved to the state of Oklahoma in 1922 where he has since resided. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 24th at the Holms Funeral Chapel. Services were conducted by a former pastor and very close friend, the Rev. Morris, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Ada, Oklahoma. Burial followed in the Durant Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, one son, Homer Lee, Jr., Roscoe, California; his father, Joe L. Akins of Denton and the following brothers and sisters: O.O. ["Ode"] Akins, Haskell; J. T.[Joe T.] Akins, Leonard; Y. B. Akins, Greenville; W. G. ["Doc"] Akins, Lake Charles, La; Mrs. Nuge [Jessie] Sudderth, Leonard; Mrs. M. F. [Ina Mae] Hughes, Dallas; Mrs. L. P. [Ruby] Jackson, Camden, Arkansas; Mrs. R. N. [Bonnie] Lukens, Denton.
