Isaac Robertson Gwathmey was one of twelve children born to Owen Gwathmey, Jr. and his wife Ann Rogers Clark.
Isaac graduated in 1811 from Transylvania University with his Law Degree. He also served as a Law Clerk for the Oldham County Circuit Court in Kentucky.
Isaac was united in marriage to Elizabeth Clark Anderson, daughter of Lt. Richard Clough Anderson, Sr. and his wife Elizabeth Clark, on December 6, 1818. Isaac and Elizabeth were blessed with the birth of five children during their marriage:

Isaac Benjamin Gwathmey
Richard Clough Gwathmey
Mary Eliza Gwathmey
Owen Gwathmey-died in infancy
Isaac passed away leaving Elizabeth with four children under the age of twelve.
NOTE: The children listed for Isaac were noted in the Will of General William Clark, Isaac's uncle. Isaac's date of death is being researched since his youngest daughter was born in 1826 and he purchased land on August 19, 1833 in Oldham County as per the Oldham County, Kentucky Deed Book.
