Tom Cobb Dies At Edna Wed.
Friends of the family in Gonzales were saddened Wednesday when news was flashed over the wires of the death of Tom Cobb at the home of his son, Milton L. Cobb, in Edna, Nov. 4, 1936 after an illness of several months.
Thomas Banister Cobb was born at the old Cobb home in Nickel, Gonzales county Nov. 18, 1862. He was the son of S. S. Cobb, Sr. and Sarah Cobb, pioneer citizens of Gonzales. Mr. Cobb was better known to Gonzalians as "Uncle Tom". He visited in his old home town on frequent occasions. He was a southern gentleman of the old s hook type and was highly respected by all who knew him . He proved himself a devoted husband and father, a true friend and kindly neighbor. Mr. Cobb was a member and active worker in the First Baptist church and his passing saddens the hearts of all who knew him.
On Sep. 5, 1894, he was united in marriage to Miss Della Kelley who survives. Two this union two sons were born, T. Roy Cobb of Borger Texas and Milton L. Cobb of Edna.
Mr. Cobb and his family moved away from Gonzales in 1913, settling in the Panhandle where they lived several years later moving to Edna in 1928 where they have resided up to the time of Mr. Cobbs death.
Funeral services were held at his home in Edna by his pastor, after which the remains were escorted by his family , neighbors and friends of Edna to Gonzales.Arriving here at 3:30 p.m. Thursday the procession moved to the City cemetery where the remains were laid to rest beside loved ones. There were many beautiful floral offerings.
E sides the immediate family Mr. Cobb leaves two brothers, R. S. Cobb of San Antonio, David Cobb of Yoakum and one sister, Mrs. Margaret Lowe and a number of nieces and nephews over the state.
Those attending from a a distance were Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Cobb of Yoakum, Mrs. Frank Coons of Bartlett, R. S. Cobb of San Antonio.
The bereaved ones have a host of friends who sympathize with them in their loss.
