Alden's parents were Elias H. Welling and Rebecca STOUT.
(Note: on 1880's Trenton City Directories, his father Elias is listed as an auctioneer, residing at 110 Hudson St., Chambersburg.)
Alden graduated from Princeton University in 1884. He graduated from the General Theological Seminary of the Protestant Episcopal Church June 1 1887 in New York City, presented his diploma by Bishop Paddock of Massachusetts. source: New York Times June 2 1887.
After taking his deacon and priest orders, Rev Alden was rector of the Church of St. John the Evangelist, Chew's Landing, NJ, 1887-1889. His next at Metuchen, NJ, after which he became a curate at the Church of the Advent in Boston, Massachusetts, and then St. Paul's, Riverdale, Connecticut. He was Chaplain of the Home of St. Michael and All Angels for Colored Cripples, at the same time maintaining a mission in another part of West Philadelphia.
In 1901, he became the Rector of Calvary Monumental Protestant Episcopal Church, Philadelpha, PA.
He died at his home 4037 Brown Street of typhoid fever.
His funeral was April 12, Easter Sunday.
