A natural botanist who worked primarily in eastern Oregon, had at one time nearly 40 taxa bearing the Cusick name. Cusick Mountain in Wallowa County is named for him.

Posthumous Award. For pioneering work in the search for all varieties of wild flowers growing in the eastern Oregon country. For careful record of these findings in the records of the government and state college files. For unceasing effort in sharing his knowledge of wild materials with those with whom he came in contact. For imparting to others a love of nature in all its beauty. This certificate of recognition and honor on the 12th day of June, 1956, to William C Cusick.
