Silas James Sturdivant, 47 year old circuit preacher of
the Methodist Evanjelical Church of the South, was thrown
from his horse 5 May 1903. He was returning from a revival
in Louisville. He passed on 14 May 1903 from internal
injuries he received.
He is the son of John Decatur & Elizabeth Ann Hawkins Sturdivant. He was married 1st to Nancy Catherine Rigdon.
From this union came Sarah Annie Sturdivant Compton and
Alice Sturdivant Bailey. After Nancy's passing he married
Angelina Lafayette Gardner, daughter of James W. Gardner
and Nancy Keith. From this union Celia, James Thomas,
Jannie Elizabeth Sturdivant Moody and John Lafayette
Sturdivant. He lived on 325 acers he received of his fathers.
Burial was in Hawkins Cemetery.
