On June 28, 1905 he married Bessie L Clime in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. They had one son, Charles Spurgeon Winter, named after the prominent British pastor and author Charles Haddon Spurgeon.

Sometime in the 1950's, after he retired, he moved from Philadelphia to Banning, California, where he initially made his home on Hargrave Street. After his younger brother Fred passed away in 1960, Charles moved about a block away and moved in with their youngest sister Florence.
