US Senator. Born in Lexington, Kentucky, he graduated from the College of New Jersey, studied law, admitted to the bar in 1808 and commenced to practice in Lexington, Kentucky. He moved to Natchez, Mississippi, in 1809, was the Natchez City Clerk in 1811 and Attorney General of Mississippi, (1821-26). In 1825, he was elected to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of David Holmes and served served until his death at age 42 in Lexington, Kentucky.
