A Whig, Dixon was elected to the US Senate and served half of one term, from 1839 until his death. During that time he was Chairman of the Committee on Revolutionary Claims. His son, Nathan Fellows Dixon II, and grandson, Nathan Fellows Dixon III, would both serve as US Congressmen from Rhode Island. (bio by: Bobb Edwards)
