Wilbur A. Dakins, 84, 350 19th Ave. South, Wisconsin Rapids, died Monday evening, Aug. 3, 1998, at Edgewater Haven Nursing Home, Port Edwards.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church, Wisconsin Rapids. The Rev. Barry Yarbro will officiate. Entombment will be in the Forest Hill Mausoleum with military rites by VFW Post 2534.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Taylor Funeral Home, Wisconsin Rapids, and from 9 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the church.
Mr. Dakins was born in the town of Buena Vista, Portage County, on March 29, 1914, to John and Mildred (Fletcher) Dakins.
He was married to Eva Rose Clendenning on March 29, 1940, in Stevens Point. She survives in Wisconsin Rapids.
He was employed as a core cutter at Consolidated Papers Inc. and retired in 1976 after 30 years of service.
He served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater from 1942 to 1945.
In addition to his wife, Eva, survivors include two sons, Gordon (Marilyn)Dakins, Wisconsin Rapids, and Norman (Mary) Dakins, Appleton; one brother, Kenneth (Doris) Dakins, Wisconsin Rapids; three sisters, Lois Worden, Plover, Eleanor Jakes, Wausau, and Shirley (William)Clussman, Wautoma; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
