LYNCHED

At Jackson, MS., on the 4th, a negro named Amos Bailey killed J. I. Cain. Cain, a planter of Franklin County. They quarreled about a horse Cain had let Bailey have. After some words Bailey struck Cain over the head with a scantling killing him almost instantly. Bailey was arrested, but was taken from the sheriff's possession by a crowd of fifty armed men and hanged at Little Springs. Bailey is a brother of Tom Bailey, who was hung in Meadville by a mob a short time ago.
