Age 88, of Wilmington, DE and Naples, FL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at her home.

Born in Chicago, IL, Rita was the daughter of the late John and Teresa McCoy. She married the love of her life, William J. Foley, in February 1945. They raised five children while living in Springfield, IL, South Bend, IN, Wilmington, DE and Geneva, Switzerland. Rita loved spending time at the beach with family and friends at their homes in Fenwick Island, DE and Naples, FL. Her husband, William J. Foley, Jr., predeceased her in 2001.

Rita was an active volunteer and served on the St. Francis Junior Board, St. Edmonds Academy Women's Guild and was the Fashion Show Coordinator at the DuPont Country Club. Rita was a wonderful cook and hostess and shared her gift by preparing meals for the priests at St. Mary Magdalen Rectory. She was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Church in Wilmington, DE and St. John's Church in Naples, FL.

She is survived by her children, Kathleen Hickey and her husband, Joe of Wilmington, DE, Sean Foley and his wife, Patricia of East Burke, VT, Mary Foley of Rixeyville, VA, William J. Foley III and his wife, Patricia of Hockessin, DE and Kevin B. Foley and his wife, Angela of Newark, DE; and her grandchildren, Joshua Hickey of Paris, France, Ian Foley of Bozeman, MT, Anna Foley of East Burke, VT, Meaghan and Daniel Foley of Newark, DE, Nicole and Caroline Foley of Hockessin, DE.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff and caregivers at Sunrise Assisted Living and Delaware Hospice.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Sunday, September 18th between 6 and 8 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday morning at 10:30 AM at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Concord Pike and Sharpley Road, Wilmington. Interment will follow at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery, Greenville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Delaware Hospice, Inc., 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19810, Salesianum School, 1802 N. Broom St., Wilmington, DE 19802, Ursuline Academy, 1104 Pennsylvania Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19806 or Tatnall School, 1501 Barley Mill Road, Wilmington, DE 19802.
