John F. Shannon Passed Away at 10:30 Last Night; Was Over 80 Year of Age

John Foster Shannon, aged 80 years and one month, died at 10:30 last night at his home on South Jefferson Street. While Mr. Shannon had not been in the best of health recently, yet his condition had not been alarming and his death came suddenly. He is survived by two daughters and for sons, Misses Emma and Lela Shannon, who made their home with their father, Will Shannon of St. Louis, John Shannon of Parsons, Kansas, Dick Shannon of Los Angeles and Raymond of Beggs, Okla.

Deceased was born in Neosho and spent his entire life here. He had seen the entire building and development of this city and the Southwest. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and of the South Methodist Church. At different times during his life he has been sheriff of the county, postmaster, police judge, justice of the peace and alderman. All his life he was a rock ribbed democrat and was at all times one of the most enthusiastic workers for the party's good.

John Shannon was indeed a real man. Upright and honest, genial and accommodating, but uncompromising in his views as to right and wrong. His life has been an open book and he passes on from this world to his home beyond leaving behind him the deepest respect, esteem, admiration and love in the hearts of all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 Monday at the Central M. E. Church, conducted by the Rev. J. D. Prater. The Masons will have charge of the services at the grave. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery under the direction of Ashley Bigham.
