Born June 29, 1933 in Butler, Butler County, he was a son of the late Samuel and Harriet E. Reed Cavins. A U.S. Army veteran who served with the 82nd Airborne, Mr. Cavins was employed by Cavins Auto Repair, Shippensburg, and was a retired truck driver for the former George Transfer Company, Baltimore, Md. He attended Mongul United Brethren Church, Shippensburg. He had six sons, William R. of Deltona, FL, Wayne J. of DeBary, FL, Samuel J. Jr. of Akron, Michael L. of Shippensburg and Charles D. of Chambersburg; and two daughters, Denise Lynn Hornberger of Shippensburg and Debra Ann Franzoni of Orrstown.
