Horace Howard Sparks was born July 21, 1836 in Cory, New York and died December 28, 1913 at his home in Mooreland, Oklahoma, age 77 years, 5 months, and 7 days.

He was a son of John and Nancy Ackerman Sparks and grew to manhood in his native state, going into Pennsylvania in 1859.

He there entered the army of the Union serving with distinction, being commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Company C of the 211th Regiment Infantry Pennsylvania Volunteers.

In 1865 he was married to Jennie Keys. To this union four children were born; Mrs. Viola O'Connor of Altoona, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Laura Jordan of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, Mrs. George Craige of New York City, and Robert L. Sparks of Orin, Washington. Jennie died in 1876.

In 1878 he married Emma E. Carley of North Point, Pennsylvania. To this union were born seven children, two of them, Emma and Horace died in infancy.

The surviving ones are Fred G. Sparks of Brookville, Pennsylvania, Dorwin D. Sparks of Trinidad, Colorado, Mrs. Z. C. Gordan of Dennison, Texas, Mrs. W. G. Jordan of Woodward, Oklahoma and Mrs. L. G. Dolling of Mooreland, Oklahoma.

He came to Oklahoma in 1908, where he resided until the time of his death.

The mother and children are left to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and father, but rejoice in the knowledge of eternal life to the one gone on before.

On September 9th he was baptised by the Children of Christ and entered into the Faith of the Followers of Christ, remaining a devout christian and patient sufferer to the end.

The ministers who baptised him came from Aline, Oklahoma to say the last words over the form of their Brother in Christ and he was laid to rest in the Mooreland Cemetery to await the first resurrection.
