Mason D. Phillips, age 68 of Deerfield Drive, Newark and formerly of Mount Vernon, passed away on Sunday December 28, 2003 at his residence. He was born on September 6, 1935 in Tazewell County, Virginia to the late Jackson and Nonie (Smith) Phillips. Mr. Phillips retired in 1996 after working 32 years as a machinist for Jervis B. Webb. He was a member of the Full Gospel Church at Rich Hill and the Ironworkers Shopmens Local 820.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Shelvie (Whited) Phillips, a son, David (Deborah) Phillips of Mount Vernon, two daughters, Theresa (John) Laurell of Newark, Connie McDowell of Mount Vernon, six grandchildren, Kevin (Jennifer) McDowell, Eric McDowell, Dana Phillips, James Phillips, Kurt Thayer, Jessica (Tyler) Murphy, a brother, Frank (Shirley) Phillips of Swords Creek, Virginia, and two sisters, Dorothy Breedlove of Mansfield and Lillie (Albert) Bostic of Loudonville.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Hospice of Central Ohio and their staff, especially Bruce Robinson, Cindy, Vickie Snavely, Sue Turner and Pastor Richard Burgie.

The family will observe private funeral services. Private burial will be in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. The Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
