Odessa Record: 9-16-1937. A farm truck and a semi-trailer tanker truck loaded with Diesel oil met on a curve 16 miles north of Ellensburg on the Cle Elum highway, killing both drivers. The farm truck was driven by H. H. Storer of Wilbur and the other by Ernest Bruce, Ellensburg. Fired which broke out in both trucks immediately after the head-on crash cremated the bodies of both drivers. The conflagration tied up traffic on the highway for nearly two hours… Storer, who had left Wilbur Thursday, was on his way to get a load of coal at Cle Elum. His truck apparently went out of control and forced the tanker into the guard rail, 150 feet above the Northern Pacific tracks along the banks of the Yakima River. The trucks crashed after the tanker had smashed head-on into the rail, meeting head-on. Storer had lived at Wilbur since 1900. Burial will be at Idaho Falls, Idaho, his former home. He had been night watchman at Wilbur for several terms, but recently operated an independent trucking business.
