Netta was the daughter of Oliver W. and Minerva Mary (Hamilton) Custead. She was raised on a farm near Cochranton and went to school through the eighth grade. Then she went to work as a housemaid for one of the professors who taught at Allegheny College in Meadville.
In 1903 she married George Albert Freyermuth, who was from the same area. She gave birth to her son Oliver in 1906, her daughter Jerrine in 1909 and her daughter Esther in 1914.
The family moved to Fredonia, Pennsylvania in the 1920's, and that was where she lived the rest of her life. She was a member of the Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She loved gardening and was an accomplished in sewing, quilting, crocheting and needlepoint.
