Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday September 10, at 11:00AM at the Powell Chapel United Methodist Church. Instate will begin at 9:30AM. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The viewing will be held on Friday from 9:00AM to 9:00PM.
On Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at 1:17 AM Mr. Dexter P. Parks passed peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family.
Dexter began his sunrise on December 29, 1958, in Newnan, Georgia, where he was born the eighth child of the late Willie O. Parks, Sr. and Christine K. Parks.
At an early age he joined the Powell Chapel United Methodist Church. Dexter was educated at Northside Elementary School. As a teenager, he attended Newnan High School where he graduated in the class of 1977. After high school he went into the United States Navy where he served four years, where he earned rank of E4 Aviation.
He leaves to cherish his memory, two sons, four daughters, and fifteen grandchildren; Levar D. Parks and Sgt. Anthony Johnson who presently serves in the U.S. Army; Adrienne Parks, Tomeya Leavell, Starr Adams, and Brittany Parks; grandchildren, Toraino, Lorenzo, Joshua, DJ, Amber, Janniya, Lashawn, Pierce (PJ), Kelchie, Amani, Skylar, Tatiana, Destiny, Sky, Dionna, and Robin; a loving and faithful sister, Barbara Parks Cook; brothers, Larry Parks, Billy (Kathleen) Parks, Jerald (Debbie) Parks, and Dwight (Jena) Parks; a sister-in-law, Louise Parks; uncles, Alford Ragland Sir, Bennie Adams, Willard Kirby; one aunt, Chistola Crawford; and a very special person in Dexter's life, Mrs. Sarah North, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
