Gary Leon Howe, 69, of Rigby, died Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello.

He was born July 2, 1941, the son of Jack Edward and Helyn Thornton Howe, in Woodland, Calif. Gary spent his earlier years in Sacramento, Calif., where he graduated from Elcamino High School. During high school, Gary loved participating in football and basketball. After graduating, Gary received a Bachelor of Arts degree from San Jose State in California.

He married his first wife in 1962, and they had one son. They were later divorced. In 1971, he remarried and expanded his family with two daughters and their son. Gary worked in California at the Livermore Labs for more than 25 years. His life's passion was music. Gary's friends and family enjoyed many hours of music and entertainment. In 1992, Gary was inducted into the Western Swing Society Hall of Fame. For the past five years, Gary and his wife, have enjoyed traveling around, playing music and picking up any gig he could "swing." Gary loved rebuilding old guitars. He enjoyed playing dinner music at The Cellar in Idaho Falls. He was a really big teddy bear, with all bark and no bite.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a daughter.

Memorial services will be held later this summer.
