U.S. Congressman. He attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology, (1916-17) and served as a Seaman in the US Navy during World War I. After the war, he graduated from the law school of Columbia University New York City, in 1924, was admitted to the bar in 1925 and commenced the practice of law in New York City. He was under-sheriff of New York County, (1934-41) and a member of the New York State Senate, (1943-44). In 1951, he was elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-second, Eighty-third and Eighty-fourth Congresses, serving until 1957. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was the New York State Director, Federal Housing Administration and practiced of law until retiring in 1965.
