Benjamin Albertson Willis
Birth: Mar. 24, 1840
Death: Oct. 14, 1886

US Congressman. During the Civil War he enlisted in the Union Army, receiving a commission of Captain and commander of Company H, 119th New York Volunteer Infantry on August 22, 1862. Promoted to Major on March 25, 1863, served in that duty until March 9, 1864, when he resigned to accept the commission of Colonel and commander of the 12th New York Volunteer Infantry. However, the reduced strength of the unit prevented him from joining the regiment as its Colonel, and he eventually resigned on January 23, 1864. After the war he was elected as a Democrat to represent New York's 11th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1875 to 1879. He was originally interred in the Friends Cemetery, Westbury, Long Island, New York.
