Janice L. "Jan" Blessing, 73, a resident of Davenport, died peacefully Saturday, September 10, 2011, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. She died surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Jan will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 417 Main St., downtown Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 3 until 7 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main St., downtown Davenport. There will be a prayer service offered Tuesday at the funeral home at 6:30 p.m. that all are encouraged to attend.
Janice Lee Schuett was born December 12, 1937, in Davenport, a daughter of LeRoy Theodore and Alice Ellen (Ramm) Schuett. She graduated from the former Davenport High School.
Jan was united in marriage to James Blessing on February 8, 1958, in Davenport at the Sacred Heart Cathedral.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy was the time spent with her family; she especially cherished the she time spent with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing bridge and traveling, as well as going shopping, and "doing lunch!"
The family is grateful to everyone at the Good Samaritan Home and Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for their loving care and kindness.
Memorials may be made to St. Anthony's Care and Share Program or to a charity of your choice.
Those left to honor her memory include her beloved husband, Jim, and children, including daughters and sons-in-law, Sheri and Kurt Sanders, Davenport, Joan and Roger Calvin, Florida, and Sue Blessing, Davenport; a son, Tom Blessing, Davenport; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Janice Schuett, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her father LeRoy, her mother, Alice, and her stepfather, Kenneth "Curly" Chrysler. May they rest in peace.
