Our beloved father, Anthon Newel Pettit, born December 21, 1918 in Salt Lake City, Utah the seventh of twelve children born to Archibald Newel and Genevieve Johnson Pettit, completed his work on this earth on September 9, 2011. He was greeted on the other side of the veil by his eternal companion Beth Constance White Pettit and other family members.

Our father was forever charitable and forgiving. He taught us the power of prayer and to sing the hymns of the church. His kindness and generosity have left a great legacy to his family.

Newel was industrious from an early age and while in high school began a trucking business hauling coal from Price to Salt Lake City. He was a veteran of World War II. He built many homes in the Salt Lake area.

He married our mother Beth Constance White Pettit on April 28, 1939. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on April 27, 1954. Beth passed away on May 27, 2009 after seventy years of marriage.

Newel is survived by his sisters, Jenny (Myron, ds) Francom, Salt Lake City; Dorthella (Roy, ds) Walker, Moab; Lyle (Jay) Lyon, Orem, and Rebecca (Revere, ds) Nelson, Salt Lake City. His children: Gerald (Judy) Pettit, Herriman; Marilyn (Grant) Woolston, South Jordan; Marvin (Danna) Pettit, South Jordan; Ronda (Lamont) Nelson, Centerville; Margie (David) Brock, Sandy; Jack (Karen) Pettit, Washington, Utah; Jill (Ron) Johnson, South Jordan; Farrell (Leigh) Pettit, Goodyear, Arizona; Brent Pettit, West Jordan; Gayla (Val) Johnson, Litchfield Park, Arizona, and Glen (Stacy) Pettit, West Jordan. His posterity includes sixty-three grandchildren, 141 great-grandchildren, and twenty great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Melvin (Marjorie), Lester (LaVella), Vernal (Amber), Seth (Neva) Pettit; his sisters, Grace (Bob) Vail, Estella Pettit, and Ruth (Ken) Broadwater; Newel and Beth's infant daughter, Rosella; grandchildren, Roger Williams, Richard Pettit, and Heidi Williams McCartney.

The family thanks the staff of the Lodge at Jordan River, IHC Hospice, Rivercrest Branch, and Murray Twenty-Eighth Ward.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road (1700 West), with a viewing on Sunday, September 11, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and again Monday from 10:00-10:45 a.m.
