COLUMBIA - Funeral service for Beulah Rickard Abrams, 88, will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2011, at Second Nazareth Baptist Church, 2300 Elmwood Avenue in Columbia at 2:00 p.m., with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. A celebration of life and visitation will follow at Second Nazareth Baptist Church immediately after the interment.

Mrs. Abrams died on Tuesday, September 7, 2011, in Palmetto Richland Hospital after an extended illness.

Beulah Rickard Abrams was born in the White Rock area of Richland County on May 24, 1923. She was born to the late Robert Rickard and Edith Reeves Quattlebaum Rickard. Beulah was one of 18 children born to Edith Reeves Quattlebaum Rickard; she was a twin.

In 1940, she met and married James Willie Abrams Sr. of Newberry. Once married, the Abrams moved to the Camp Fornance area of Columbia to work and raise their family. Beulah and James Willie had four children: Faye Ann, Beverly Jane, Vivian and James Willie Abrams Jr., and one grandson, Willie James Abrams, Sr., whom they raised as their own.

Beulah was a true nurturer and caregiver in every sense of the word. She worked at home "doing hair" for many of the ladies in the community. She worked in the cafeteria at Rosewood Elementary for several years, but the majority of her life was spent as a domestic. She worked as a housekeeper until she retired due to her age and declining health in 1996.Beulah cooked and baked for almost everyone she knew. There was not a soul she encountered that she did not offer to help, and no one ever crossed the threshold of her home without the offer of being fed.

Raised in the church, Beulah was a faithful member of New Hope where she served at a young age. Later, when her husband was ordained as deacon, Beulah worked and served faithfully as a deacon's wife and choir member at Second Nazareth Baptist Church. In 1986, she moved her membership to support her son in his pastorage of St. James Baptist Church, where she served as a member of the Missionary Board and Jubilee Choir until her illness confined her to her home.

Beulah Rickard Abrams was preceded in death by her 17 siblings; by her husband, the late Deacon James Willie Abrams Sr., and by her daughter, the late Vivian Abrams. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, two daughters, Faye Ann Holland and Beverly Jane (Frank) Hart III; and one son, Reverend Dr. James "Andy" Willie (Marilyn) Abrams Jr., all of Columbia; her grandson and faithful caregiver until the end, Willie James Abrams Sr., also of Columba; eight other grandchildren, Kevin Sidney (Emma Annetta) Hart, Nicole Halliett Holland, Kenneth Terrell (Shaunquell) Hart, Nichel Faye Holland Swindler of Hopkinsville, KY, Keith Latrell (Wilhelmina) Hart, Rahshaan Abrams, James "Pooh" Willie (Rashanda) Abrams III, all of Columbia, and Shayla Melissa Abrams of Rock Hill, SC; 16 great-grandchildren, Darrien Holland, Summer Abrams, DeForest Williams, Jordan Abrams, Kendall Abrams, Nathan Hart, Mikayla Swindler, Chandler Abrams, Aaron Hart, Mikale Swindler, Kaitlyn Hart, Kennedi Hart, Olivia Hart, Willie "Abe" James Abrams Jr., Kenneth "KJ" Hart Jr. and James Willie Abrams IV. Her life and memory will also be celebrated by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services have been entrusted to Pearson's Funeral Home.
