Nathaniel Rochester, marrying his daughter Sophia in 1855. He resigned during his second term as Mayor; he was a strict believer in temperance and resigned rather than be forced to issue liquor licenses. He was a merchant and miller of the "Flour City," an early supporter of the telegraph, and was the first merchant to bring coal to Rochester.
