A Good Lady Gone

Mrs. F.X. Bullinger Passes Peacefully Away on Saturday Morning

Last Saturday morning, May 21, 1898, about seven o'clock, death claimed Mrs. Mary Bullinger, wife of Esq. F.X. Bullinger. She had been sick but a few days and the annoucement of the passing away of this good lady filled the community with sorrow.

Deceased was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bockenstedt and was born at Steinfeld, Oldenburg, Germany, March 30, 1841, and came with her parents to the United States in 1846, arriving at New Vienna on All Saints day of that year. They thus became one of the pioneer families of this past of Iowa, which was then mostly a vast wilderness.

On September 6, 1859, she was joined in the holy bonds of matrimony with her surviving husband by the late Rev. Father Jacob Orth in St. Boniface church at New Vienna. From there she came to Dyersville with her husband, who was engaged in the mercantile business, and was very popular with the people of this vicinity on account of her thorough christian virtues and her cheerful and neighborly disposition. For many years and up to the time of her death, she conducted a millinery store with remarkable success.

She is survived by her husband, two sons, John and Joseph, and two daughters, Lydia and Annie, and also two adopted children, Julius Xavier and Mary, who have the sympathy of the entire community in the loss of a devoted wife and mother.

The funeral took place last Tuesday morning. The attendance was one of the largest we have witnessed in Dyersville for many years and indicates the high esteem the deceased was held by friends from far and near. After requiem mass for the repose of her soul in St. Francis church, her earthly remains were laid to rest in St. Francis cemetery, Very Rev. Father Heer officiating. R.I.P.

Card of Thanks

To our many friends and neighbors we extend our heartfelt thanks for their kind assistance during the sickness and at the death of our beloved wife and mother.
