Elected to represent West Virginia's 3rd District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1913 to 1915. Also served as a Delegate to the Republican National Convention from West Virginia in 1916. He died on June 8, 1924, after being struck by lightning in Charleston, West Virginia.
