| Birth: | Nov. 26, 1764 | | Death: | Mar. 6, 1823 |  US Congressman. After serving during the Revolutionary War as a Major in the Monmouth County, New Jersey Militia, he served in the New Jersey legislature from 1793 to 1796 (serving as House Speaker in the last year). He was elected to represent New Jersey as a Federalist in the United States House of Representatives, serving first as an At-Large Delegate from 1797 to 1799, then representing the 4th District from 1799 to 1801. In 1798 he was one of the House Managers in the Impeachment Trial of Senator William Blount of Tennessee, who was on trial for his involvement in a plot to turn Florida over to the British. After the end of his term he practiced law and served as Postmaster in his native Allentown, New Jersey, where he died in 1823. (bio by: Russ Dodge)
