Ralph W. Drennan

Ralph Warren Drennan, age 93, Joplin, passed away on Monday, Sept. 5, 2011, at Freeman West Hospital.

Ralph was born Dec. 26, 1917, in Joplin, son of the late James Arthur Drennan and Norma Gladys Carroll.

He graduated from Joplin High School in 1936, and went to work for Joplin Printing where he worked for over 25 years before beginning Drennan Bookbinding and Ruling Service in 1965, which he operated until retiring at the age of 92.

Ralph served in the United States Army during World War II where he served in the Battle of the Bulge. He was one of 18 men out of 364 men in Company H that survived. He was awarded the Silver Star, three Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He entered the Army in 1944, as a private, and retired from the Army Reserve after 25 years of service with the rank of captain.

He was an active member of Villa Heights Christian Church where he served as the choir director for 25 years.

In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by his first wife, Fern Louise Walters Drennan who died Jan. 26, 2004; and three brothers, Jack, Cleo and LaVone.

He married Imogene Phipps on Oct. 8, 2005. She survives.

Additional survivors include his daughters, Connie Narrell and husband, Dave, of Joplin, and Sharen May and husband, Joe, also of Joplin; brother, Jim Drennan and wife, Laurine, of Port Angeles, Wash.; grandchildren, Scott Narrell, Jason Narrell, Doug May and Carrie Kimbel; and great-grandchildren, Nick, Ben, Joshua, Katie, Lucy, Maggie, Sydney, Erin, Harper, Ashley, Julia and Hannah.

Funeral services will be Friday, Sept. 9, at 11 a.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Truman Brady officiating.

Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m.
