Putnam Courier, Carmel, NY, Thursday, February 7, 1957: Sherman Roscoe, a lifelong resident of this vicinity, died on Wednesday morning, February 6, 1957, following an illness of five years, He was in his 75th year. The deceased was a son of Stephen R. and Mary Worden Roscoe and born in the town of Kent, May 5, 1882. He attended the district school near the homestead and at an early date began his life work as a painter. In 1901 he was united in marriage with Miss Ida Smith and 26 years ago they moved to a new home in Raymond Hill Park. Mr. Roscoe painted many of the residences in this village during the past 40 years, having a list of home owners to which he returned every few years when a home needed repainting and continued this work until illness compelled him to retire. Surviving are his wife, and two daughters, Mrs. George Lockwood, Sr., of Carmel and Mrs. Alonzo Williams of Somers; a brother, Herbert Roscoe of Yorktown Heights; and three grandchildren. Interment will be made in the family plot in Raymond Hill cemetery.
