Former navyman Wilson Herbert DeVoss, age 50, was buried with full military honors here Wednesday afternoon at the Andrews cemetery.
The funeral services were carried out under the direction of personnel of Webb Air Force Base at Big Spring.
DeVoss passed away at 10:45 P.M. Sunday night at Community General Hospital. An autopsy revealed that his death related to services connected injuries.
DeVoss was in the U.S. Navy from 1940 to 1958. He participated in the infamous Bataan Death March when he was 17 years of age. He was a prisoner of war of the Japanese for four years. He entered the Navy weighing 180 pounds and came out of POW internment weighing 75 pounds.
Services were held at 2 P.M. Wednesday at Singleton Funeral Home's Chapel of the Chimes. Rev. David Cave, associate pastor of the Assembly of God Church in Andrews officiated. He was assisted by Rev. R.E. Owen, pastor of the church.
Devoss had lived in Andrews for the past six months at 1109 NW 8th Place. He moved here from Tempe, Arizona where he had resided for the past 13 years. He was born in Lebanon, Indiana October 14, 1923.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Andrews; one son, Leon DeVoss of Indianapolis, In., six daughters: Mrs Gloria Shaw of LaFayette, In., Mrs. Cheryl Pace of New Carlyle, Ohio, Miss Debra DeVoss of Andrews, Mrs. Rhonda Barbaw of Scottsdale, Arizona, Miss Teresa DeVoss of Andrews; one sister, Mrs Katherine Stilwell of Frankfurt, In.; two brothers, Vincent of Oakland, Cal., and Gordon of Olive, N.Y.; and five grandchildren.
