She is a graduate of the Boston University Law School, where she was a classmate of her husband, and practiced law at the Topeka bar as Mr. Whitcomb's partner for several years after their marriage. She was born at Princeton, N. J., and is a daughter of Rev. William J. Wright, D. D., LL. D., a distinguished mathematician and a prominent member of the Presbyterian clergy, and Julia McNair Wright, an eminent writer, whose name is well known as that of the author of many popular books. Like her mother, Mrs. Whitcomb is the author of several books, and a writer of much ability. Mr. Whitcomb and wife have six children: Philip Wright, who graduated from Washburn College at the age of eighteen, and who was elected a Rhodes scholar from Kansas to Oxford University, England, in December, 1910; Richard S., Robert F., William H., and George A. and Isabel M., who are twins. Mr. Whitcomb is a trustee in the First Presbyterian Church of Topeka, where both he and his wife maintain membership.

Wife of Judge Whitcomb Practiced Law
She and Husband Were Classmates at Boston University -- Was Author of Several Books


Mrs. Jessie Wright Whitcomb, well known writer and wife of Judge George H. Whitcomb of the second division of the Shawnee county district court, died in Christ's hospital Tuesday afternoon.
Mrs. Whitcomb was born in Princeton, N.J., and was the daughter of the late Rev. William J. Wright, distinguished mathematician and a prominent member of the Presbyterian clergy, and Julia McNair Wright, an eminent writer and an author of many books. During her girlhood she traveled extensively in Europe with her learned parents.

Law Partner of Husband
Mrs. Whitcomb was a graduate of the Boston university law school and her husband was one of her classmates. Judge Whitcomb came to Topeka in September, 1887, and Mrs. Whitcomb became a resident of Topeka shortly after her marriage November 15, 1888.

For several years after her marriage, Mrs. Whitcomb was a law partner as well as wife to Judge Whitcomb. She was associated with him in his office and practiced law as his partner. She also inherited much of her mother's ability as a writer. She was an author of several books and short stories which she contributed to magazines. She was also a prominent member of the First Presbyterian church.

Survived by Six Children
Besides her husband, she is survived by six children, all of whom are prominent. They are: Philip W. Whitcomb of London, Eng., a graduate of Washburn college at the age of 18, who was elected a Rhodes scholar from Kansas to Oxford university in 1910; Robert S. Whitcomb, trusted employee of the National Bank of Buenos Aires, Argentina; Richard Whitcomb, of Winchester, Mass., who is associated with the American Telephone and Telegraph Co.; William Whitcomb, who is with the New York Life Insurance Co., at Seattle, Wash.; George Whitcomb, who is in the advertising business in Oakland, Calif.; and Mrs. Isabel McNeill of Denver, Colo.

Funeral arrangements have not been completed.JESSIE ELVIRA WRIGHT graduated from the University of Vermont at the age of 19, in the class of 1884. She later graduated, in 1887, from the University of Boston Law School and was admitted to the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States, as well as the Kansas Bar. Additionally, she received a Master of Arts degree in 1910, and she wrote eight books. A dormitory building was named in her honor at the University of Vermont, dedicated in 1964.
