John was one of three children of Annie O'Farrell and John W. Dixon. He had an older sister Alice Dixon Peacock and a younger sister Teresa Marie Dixon Romedy, who died October 20, 2011. His parents had married in and were renting at 1450 Spearing Street in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida. His father was working as a house carpenter.
By 1920, the family was living in the home they owned at 1450 Spearing Street in Jacksonville. The household included: John W. Dixon, age 49, born in Georgia to parents from Georgia, a ships carpenter; Anna C., age 29, born in Florida to a father from Georgia and a mother from Florida; Alice, age 8, born in Florida; Alfred, age 5, born in Florida; and Theresa, age 2/12, born in Florida.
John and his younger sister were still living at home with their parents in 1930 and 1935.

John A. Dixon, 91, also known. as "Mr. D", "PawPaw" or "Big Daddy" passed away on December 17, 2005. John was born in Jacksonville, Florida to John W. and Annie C. Dixon on October 21, 1914.
John, a lifelong resident of Jacksonville, was a member of U.S. Naval Reserve during World War II. He served as a cook aboard the U.S.S. Albany. John held only two jobs in his lifetime. As a young man he worked for H & WB Drew Company. He retired from the Railway Express Company after 25 years of employment. He enjoyed over 30 years of retirement. He was an avid Seminole fan and a lifetime member of Bailey's Powerhouse Gym.
Mr. Dixon, was predeceased by his parents, one granddaughter, Denise Bailey and sister, Alice Peacock, he leaves behind a sister, Teresa Romedy, two daughters, Jonnie Davis and Dian Bailey (Don Sr.), four grandsons, Don (Michele), Darryl (Rene), David, Bailey, and John Livingston. One grand daughter, Diana Livingston. He had four great grandchildren, Erin, Dayna, Eric and Emily.
Funeral services are to be held on Thursday, December 22nd at 11:00. Services are provided by Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, with Pastor Blake Kotur officiating. Following the service there will be a private graveside at Old City Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
